Ogun 2018 Appropriation Bill Scales Second Reading

The 2018 Appropriation Bill presented to the Ogun State House of Assembly by the State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun two days ago has passed through second reading on the floor of the Assembly.

The motion for the second reading of the N345.42Bn appropriated bill was moved by the Minority Leader, Hon. Olawale Alausa, seconded by Yetunde Sogbein-Adekanbi and supported by the Whole House through a voice vote.

Opening debate on the Bill, titled: “HB NO.25 /OG/ 2017- Year 2018 Appropriation Law of Ogun State”, the Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Hon. Akanbi Bankole, said the bill christened: ” Budget of Accelerated Development”, when passed by the Assembly and assented to by Governor Amosun, would lead to all-round development of all parts of the State.

He encouraged his colleague-lawmakers to look critically at the bill and do justice in the course of legislative process to achieve the success of the on-going rebuilding mission in the State.

Corroborating Hon. Bankole’s view, other members including the Minority Leader, Wale Alausa, Honourables Israel Jolaoso, Ganiyu Oyedeji and the Chief Whip, Idowu Olowofuja called for the timely passage of the Bill which they noted would allow for the timely completion of all on-going projects across the State.

Also, Honourables Adebowale Ojuri, Akinpelu Aina and Julianah Akintayo expressed that the implementation of the budget after its passage by the Assembly would lead to the achievement of industralization drive of the current government thereby boosting employment opportunities for the teeming populace.

They commended the allocation of the 64.7% of the budget size to capital projects which according to them would lead to infrastructural development as well as the over 40% revenue to fund the budget from the internally generated revenue.

Responding, Speaker Suraju Ishola Adekunbi while commended his colleague-lawmakers for their robust contributions at ensuring an all-inclusive bill for the advancement of the State, directed that the bill be committed to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation for further actions.
