On November 29, 2017, all roads led to the International Conference Hall of the Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, where people from different walks of life gathered to witness the presentation of the 2nd Inaugural Lecture of the institution delivered by Engr (Prof) Sabit Olagoke Ariyo (JP) on the topic, “The Honey Bees on Sustainable Development Concept: TVET-SDG Linkage for Nigeria”.

The occasion witnessed the presence of the institution’s management led by the Rector, Arc. Olanrewaju Olusegun Aluko, former Rector and Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Raimi Oloyo and the institution’s Registrar, Mrs.  Osore, including heads of departments and directors of various sections.

Also in attendance was the Head of Department, Arabic and Islamic Studies, University of Ibadan, Professor Kamil Oloso.

In his presentation, Professor Olagoke explained that it is the right of everyone to be educated.

The Professor of Public Administration and Chief Lecturer of the institution emphasized that in order to ensure dignity of labor that will provide lifelong learning to live, work and develop economic, industrial growth, employment generation and as well alleviate poverty, there is need for vocational and technical education development of occupational skills.

Prof. Olagoke encouraged the present administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari to restore some policies of the previous administrations such as Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP), Operation Feed the Nation (OFN), Directorate of Food, Road and Rural Infrastructure (DFRRI) among others in order to arrest the rising unemployment and youth restiveness.

He added that the only way out of the current problems facing the country is for every Nigerian to think beyond self.

The institution’s Rector, Arc. Olanrewaju Aluko, in his welcome address, described Professor Ariyo Olagoke as one of the pillars of the school, whose contributions towards the sustainability and improvement of the institution is un-quantifiable.

He disclosed that the lecture was not only an inaugural lecture, but also a valedictory one, signifying the retirement of Professor Sabit Olagoke.

Arc. Aluko expressed that Prof Olagoke has served the institution meritoriously and that he was glad to have shared the history with him.

The occasion was also used to celebrate the birthday anniversary of the guest lecturer, Engr (Prof.) Sabit Olagoke Ariyo, who clocked 61 years on November 10, and presentation of prizes to the winners of 2017 Annual Olagoke Education Foundation (OLEG) competition.

Among dignitaries in attendance was the wife of the lecturer, Grand Amira, Alhaja Fadeolakemi Olagoke, members of Shafaudeen In Islam Worldwide and representatives of Nigerian Society of Engineers.
