Drilling Of Boreholes: Ekiti Sets Up 7-Man Committee On Regulation

As part of efforts at checkmating the activities of quacks and illegal drillers of boreholes, the Ekiti State Government has set up a 7 man taskforce to regulate the activities of borehole drillers and rig owners in the State.

The taskforce which is headed by Engineer Ojo Olaosebikan of the State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency(EK-RUWASSA) is made up of representatives of RUWASSA, Borehole drillers association of Nigeria(BODAN) as well as the Association of Water and Well drillers Practitioners(AWDROP).

Speaking during the inauguration of the taskforce, the state commissioner for Public Utilities , Chief Tunde Ogunleye said that sanitation and stable supply of water remained top priority of the Fayose led administration, stressing that it had become crucial to regulate the sector in view of increased activities in the state.

Chief Ogunleye enumerated the terms of reference of the taskforce to include eliminating illegal drilling of boreholes, proper registration of associations of both local and  foreign borehole drillers and rig owners in the state.

The Commissioner charged members of the taskforce to utilize all legal means to ensure sanity in the sector stressing that the assignment must be carried out without fear or favor.

He added that the taskforce would make formal report of its activities to RUWASSA and the State Ministry of Public Utilities on regular basis.

Other members of the taskforce are Mr Ogundola Adebayo, Mr. Adebayo Olanrewaju, Mr. Kolawole Akeem, Mr. Olomi Ajayi, Mr. Azeez Idris and Mr. Sunday Afolabi.
