The Oyo State House of Assembly has set up a 10-man ad-hoc committee to look into the issue raised in the report presented by the Chairman House committee on Health on monitoring of all construction and installation works and compliance of the contractors in following the laid down plans in the schedule of projects at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomosho.

The said report was presented by the Chairman House committee on Health, Hon. Silas Okunlola representing Iwajowa state constituency pursuant to the resolution of the House on Thursday 16th June, 2017 after over a year that the said committee was mandated to carry out monitoring of the said project at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital.

After many deliberations by the Lawmakers on the said report, the Speaker of the House, Hon. Michael Adesina Adeyemo set up the said adhoc committee which was to be chaired by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Musah Abdulwasi and to report back within one month.

The said committee was also empowered to among other things to issue a bench warrant of arrest against the contractor handling the said project if he fails to appear before the committee.

The house also deliberated upon the importance of vocational education in development of human capacity and present conditions of the technical colleges in the State with a view to appealing to the executive arm of government to properly fund the colleges and provide necessary resources for optimal performance.

The said motion was presented by Hon. Muideen Olagunju representing Oyo East/Oyo West state constituency with the title “urgent need to overhaul vocational and technical education in Oyo State with particular reference to proper funding of government technical colleges in Oyo state.”

While speaking with journalists shortly after the plenary, the Chairman House committee on Information, Hon Joshua Oyebamiji explained that the house was committed to the welfare of the people of the State.

The house has adjourned its sitting till Thursday 13th July, 2017.
