All arrangements have been concluded by the Chairman of Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, Chief Segun Oladitan and his team to conduct the state’s local government elections on January 27, 2018.

Speaking at a press conference in Osogbo on Wednesday, Oladitan said the polls would hold after 10 years local government elections were conducted in the state but he said legal encumbrances had prevented the commission from conducting the election since 2013.

He stated that elections would be conducted in the 30 local government council; local council development areas and the area offices recently created by the administration of Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

The OSSIEC boss promised that the elections would be credible.

He stated the state would use the parliamentary system in electing politicians into the councils. He said that chairmanship elections would not be conducted but explained that Councillors would be elected and the chairmen would be elected among the elected Councillors.

He urged politicians to play the game by the rule while urging them to follow the guidelines which the commission would release so that none of them would run afoul of the law.
