Journalists Lauded By Ogun Speaker For Promoting Good Governance

Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) Ogun State Council have been applauded for maintaining  high level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties as the intermediaries between the government and the governed as well as in their  role as watchdogs of the society.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Suraju Ishola Adekunbi gave the commendation at the Grand Finale of the 2017 Press Week of the union held at Daktad Hotel and Suites in Abeokuta, shortly after being conferred with an Award of Excellence as the “Media Friendly Speaker”, in recognition of his efforts at promoting peace and harmonious relationship among Lawmakers, which had aided Executive- Legislative interdependence in promoting good governance in the State.

Adekunbi, who described journalists as major stakeholders in the Rebuilding mission of the Senator Ibikunle Amosun- led government, assured that the Assembly would continue to partner with other arms of government at ensuring the sustenance of enabling environment for investments to thrive and to engender more development in the State.

The Speaker, who also spoke on behalf of the other awardees including the Commissioner of Police in the State Command  of the Nigeria Police, Mr. Ahmed Iliyasu, remarked that the honour conferred on them by the union would spur them to redouble their efforts to continually promoting democratic ideals and ensure that the State maintain its leading role in the comity of States in the nation.

In his submission, the Chief of Staff to the State Governor, Chief Tolu Odebiyi, who was also installed as the patron of the union charged members of the fourth estate of the realm to always uphold the ethics of Journalism through high sense of objectivity, fairness and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Chairman of  NUJ in the State, Comrade Wole Sokunbi, stated that the programme was an avenue to strengthen the profession through exchange of ideas, reiterating the robust relationship between the union and other stakeholders for the development of the State.

Sokunbi lauded the Rt. Hon. Speaker for his commitment towards promoting peaceful relationships among all arms of government which had contributed immensely to the success of the ongoing rebuilding mission in the State, as well as his friendly disposition to issues affecting journalists in the State.
