The Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Ladi Abimbola has charged judiciary staff members in Oyo State to show more commitment, cooperation and support to lift the banner of the judicial arm of government.
The Chief Judge gave the charge during the 2017 Chief Judge’s Award presentation, Send-forth for Retirees and End of the Year Party held at High Court of Justice, Ring Road, Ibadan.
Justice Abimbola acknowledged the efforts of the members of the third arm of government, “let me observe as I do yearly on occasions like this that the staff of the judiciary forms the super structure upon which this judiciary is built, and therefore, plays a significant role in its success and administration of justice in the state.”
The Chief Judge assured the judiciary staff members of his determination to enhance their working conditions and welfare by ensuring prompt payment of salaries and allowances, as well as promotion as at when due.
Justice Abimbola, while commending the officers of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Oyo State chapter, urged them to lead by example through the demonstration of purposeful and dynamic leadership to the generality of the staff. He implored them to shun corruption and ensure diligent and punctuality in the performance of their duties.
He congratulated this year’s awardees of the Chief Judge’s award, saying that it was to recognize them for their excellent performance in the course of their duties, and to serve as motivation for others.
Justice Abimbola prayed for the retirees and pledged the continued support of the state judiciary.
In her speech, the Chief Registrar at Oyo State High Court, Mrs Olatunji-Daniel, highlighted the enforcement of Community Service Law, establishment of Alternative Dispute Resolution Centers, appointment of President of Customary Court of Appeal and Family Court as parts of achievements recorded by the state judiciary.
She commended the Chief Judge for the renovation of the new High Court complex in Shaki and the establishment of a new court, a Grade ‘A’ Customary Court with the appointment of nine legal practitioners as Presidents in order to enhance Justice delivery at the local government level.
The Chief Registrar opined that the Chief Judge has played a vital role in ensuring that welfare of staff is well taken care of, through the prompt release of allocation to the judiciary, regular payment of salaries and allowances as well as leave bonuses to workers.
The Chairman, Oyo State Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Comrade Kayode Martins, attributed the success and motivation recorded this year to Almighty God, with the help and support of Justice Ladi Abimbila, who ensured a conducive atmosphere and a better working condition for judicial workers.
He applauded the support and cooperation given to the Chief Judge by the entire high court judges, Chief Registrar and all other officers.
Comrade Kayode Martins, while appreciating the support of the entire judicial workers and other members of the executive, urged them to keep looking forward with hope and determination to improve on their excellent performance in the state judiciary.
Five in each category of men and women received the Chief Judge’s award in Best Staff of the Year, Dilligence, Punctuality, Efficiency and Neatness. Also, award of excellence were given to the stakeholders partnering the state judiciary in the administration of justice including the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu.
