A former Lawmaker in the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Abioye Mathew Adegboyega has said that his defection to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from All Progressives Congress (APC) was a divine arrangement.
Hon. Abioye explained that if he were to use his own wisdom, he would have remained perpetually in APC, the party which has let Nigerians down because of its failure to fulfill its promises on change mantra it used to campaign in the build up to the 2015 general elections.
He hinted that since the last general elections in 2015, he has committed everything unto God and relied on Him for direction in his future political endeavour, adding that when it was time, God directed him to return to PDP, his former party and he has no choice but to heed God’s directive.
Hon. Abioye added that with the current situation all over the country, it is glaring that APC cannot last beyond 2019 since the federal government under the APC cannot provide solutions to the myriad of problems confronting the country ranging from insecurity, kidnapping, killings by herdsmen, unstable economy, favouritism and hunger.
He further hinted that his defection has further been justified by the calls from former leaders in the country like Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and General Ibrahim Babangida on President Muhammadu Buhari to jettison the ambition of running for a second term in office for inability to tackle the challenges facing the country.
Hon. Abioye who is preparing to re-contest for the House of representatives election to represent Ogo Oluwa/Surulere Federal constituency in 2019 general election disclosed that he decided to seek for higher position so as to facilitate federal government projects to the people in his constituency who have not felt the presence of any federal government project despite having a representative in the lower chamber of the National Assembly.
Hon. Abioye, it would be recalled was a two term member of the Oyo State House of Assembly between 2007-2015. During his tenure in the House of Assembly, he impacted positively on the lives of the people in his constituency which is the reason why he was called upon to go to the National Assembly.
He contested for the Federal House of Representatives under the APC in 2015 but lost to the PDP candidate in the election which he believed was massively rigged in favour of the then PDP candidate.
