Residents of Osogbo, the capital city of Osun State were thrown into serious pandemonium on Thursday evening as a 33,000-litre fuel-laden tanker went up in flames inside a private mega filling station, forcing motorists to make a detour on Gbongan-Ibadan expressway.

The petrol station, owned by an independent marketer is located around Ogo Oluwa area of Osogbo, which is few metres from the party secretariat of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) in the state.

The incident, said to have occurred around 7.15pm caused fear and apprehension among the people, especially occupants of residential buildings and shops near the filling station, compelling motorists, including commercial drivers and private vehicles owners to make a detour in order to avoid being caught up in the raging flames from the articulated vehicle.

Though the actual cause of the fire incident could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report, most of the dispensing machines in the fuel station,  numbering about 10 were already burning when reporters visited the scene.

Residents were seen running away from the vicinity of the filling station. Casualty figures had not been released as at the time of filing this report.
