Oyo APC Guber Primary: How Former Deputy Governor Of CBN, Bayo Adelabu Emerged

Former Central Bank of Nigeria’s deputy governor, Chief Bayo Adelabu has emerged as Oyo All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate after a vigil kept by even the incumbent governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi and wife, Florence.

His emergence came as the last man standing, Chief Niyi Akintola also pulled out from the race joining other aspirants

Seven among the eight aspirants were screened and cleared to contest by the party with the communication minister, Barrister Adebayo Shittu screened out for not participating in the mandatory one year NYSC service.

Also, former governor Adebayo Alao Akala and former Health commissioner, Dr Azeez Adeduntan withdrew from the race before the election.

At the election venue, three aspirants which were Olasunkanmi Tegbe, Dr Owolabi Babalola and Dr Ayandele Eruobodo pulled out of the race.

The voting commenced with Adebayo Adelabu Penkelemesi and Bar Niyi Akintola before latter pulled out allowing Adebayo Adelabu Penkelemesi to emerge as the party’s governorship candidate.

However, the leadership of the party decided to go ahead with the primary election exercise to fulfill the requirements of the supervising INEC.

The exercise ended in the early morning of Monday, October 1, 2018.
