OOU Commended By Ogun Assembly On Accreditation Of Nursing Programme, Others

The Ogun State House of Assembly has lauded the Management of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye for putting in place necessary human resources and academic requirements alongside infrastructural development which have led to the accreditation of three additional degree programmes in Nursing, Music and Linguistics by the National Universities Commission (NUC) to be commenced during the 2018/2019 academic session.

Members of the State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Science and Technology led by Hon. Olayiwola Ojodu, who gave the commendation during the 2018 budget assessment visit to the institution, posited that the new courses including Bachelor of Science Degrees in Nursing, Bachelor of Art in Music and Linguistics would allow students who are interested in the professions to have access to seasoned tutelage offered by the institution which paraded seasoned academic and non academic personnel.

The recent approval by the (NUC) was in addition to the existing 70 courses being offered by the institution.

Members of the Committee including Honourables Julianah Akintayo, Akanbi Bankole and Adebiyi Adeleye also commended the institution for promoting transparency and accountability in their budget process with a charge on them to consolidate on the infrastructural facilities of the institution with a view to maintaining its enviable position among tertiary institutions beyond the shore of the nation.

In his presentation, the Vice Chancellor, OOU, Prof. Ganiyu Olatunde explained that the  recent approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC) was in addition to the existing 70 courses of the institution, saying that the institution secured 95% accreditation for its existing 70 courses as part of its resolve to ensure quality standard in its academic blueprint aimed at producing graduates that could compete favourably with their peers across the globe.

Olatunde represented by the Deputy Vice-chancellor, Academics,  Prof. Agboola Ayodeji said the institution in the period under review generated the sum of N1.704bn as its revenue, having completed the construction of Faculty of Education Phase III projects, noting that ongoing construction included a 250 capacity lecture theatre at Ibogun Campus and a new ICT Centre, blocks of classrooms and offices at the main campus.

In another development, Tai Solarin University of Education,  Ijagun has reassured that it would continue to train educators/teachers who would be proficient in their respective disciplines for the advancement of the educational sector in the nation. To this end, all is set for the re-accreditation of existing 12 courses by the NUC.

The Vice-chancellor, TASUED, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu who said this while taking his turn to reel out the achievements of the institution in the year under review, said that the institution presently enjoys  100% accreditation of all its programmes.

On the budget performance of the school,  the Vice Chancellor explained that a total of N2.045bn was generated into  its coffers,  with N146.66m expended on various capital projects.
