National Development: Ogun Assembly Challenges TASCE

The managements of Tai Solarin College of Education, Omu-Ijebu,  Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu-Igbo and Ogun State Health Technology, Ilese have been enjoined to continue to evolve more strategies for the promotion of quality higher education for the educational and technological advancement of the nation.

The House Committee on Education, Science and Technology led by Olayiwola Ojodu who gave the charge during a visit to the State institutions in continuation of the 2018 budget assessment, stressed that higher institutions provided skills for human resources development and industrial productivity through various technologically driven programmes.

The members of the Committee including Honourables Akanbi Bankole, Julianah Akintayo, Adebiyi Adeleye and Adejuwon Olufowobi commended the institutions for their financial ingenuity and uninterrupted academic calendar as well as the implementation of capital projects to aid smooth learning.

In her presentation, the Rector of Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu-Igbo, Prof. Bilesanmi-Awoderu said that the institution under her leadership had been utilising the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) judiciously for the development of infrastructural facilities and human capacity of its members of staff.

Awoderu listed sone of the ongoing projects in the institution to include a-200 capacity lecture hall with staff offices, procurement of 133 lecture hall furniture, 150 KVA Soundproof generating set and fabrication of oil palms processing plant as well as the attendance of local and international conferences by teaching and non-teaching staff of the institution.

She explained that plans were underway for the accreditation of Higher National Diploma in Mass Communication and Science and Laboratory Technology (microbiology option) and reaccreditation of Accountancy as well as Banking and Finance at HND and ND levels respectively.

Taking his turn to reel out the achievements of his College, the Provost, State College of Health Technology, Ilese, Dr. Abiodun Oladunjoye sought the need the State House of Assembly in ensuring the speedy passage of the amendment bill of the Institution,  which he noted would help expand the operations of the school when operational.

Oladunjoye added that the amendment act would avail the institution an opportunity to offer more behavioural and management science courses.

 At the Tai Solarin College of Education, the lawmakers were received by the College Provost, Dr. Adeola Kaidese, who explained that the institution had secured accreditation from the (NUC) for the running of degree programmes in  affiliation  with the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye.

Also, the Rector, Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic, Saapade, Dr. Kolawole Oyeyinka disclosed that the sum of N191.7m was expended on capital projects out of a total sum of  N494.13m revenue generated during the budget assessment period.

Responding, the Committee members took turn to commend Oyeyinka for the total turn around of infrastructure and the entire environment of the school.
