OGHA Commends LG Chairmen On Agricultural Initiatives, Revenue Generation

Ogun State House of Assembly has lauded the Managements and members of the Obafemi Owode Local Government Council, Obafemi Local Council Development Area (LCDA) and Ofada/Mokoloki Local Council Development Areas (LCDA), for adopting strategies aimed at promoting agricultural practices for the growth in business and economic development of their Council Areas.

The Chairman of the State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Tunde Sanusi gave the commendation while appraising the 2018 budget performance of local government councils and Local Council Development Areas  (LCDAs) at the Council Secretariats at Obafemi /Owode and Sagamu Local Council Areas and their LCDAs.

Sanusi in company of other members of the Committee including Ganiyu Oyedeji, Adeyemi Harrisson, Akinpelu Aina and Rasaq Oduntan, acknowledged the complementing efforts of the councils and LCDAs in the socio-economic transformation of the State, saying the Local Government Councils and the LCDAS had Consolidated on the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led-administration’s effort at ensuring food security beyond the borders of the State.

Taking turn to assess the budget of Sagamu Local Government Council,  Sagamu West LCDA, Makun and Sagamu South LCDA, Ogijo, the Committee members appreciated their revenue drive as well as the provision of medical facilities to health and maternity centres in the Council areas.

The members also gave them a pat on the back for contributing to the development of infrastructure in the various communities and the grading of rural roads.

Commenting on the revenue sharing formula between the State and Local Government in the State, the lawmakers explained that the all-encompassing Harmonised Revenue Bill which is before the State Assembly was a legislation which would help in streamlining the sharing of revenue between the State and the Local government areas.

They charged the management staff of the LGs and LCDAs to put in place a committee for intensive revenue generation to complement the financial aid provided by Federal and State Governments to further implement more people-oriented projects.

In their separate remarks, the Chairmen, Obafemi Owode Local Government Council, Jamiu Balogun represented by his Vice, Mrs Falana Abosede, Mrs Olabisi Collins of Obafemi LCDA and Mrs Kudirat Balogun from Ofada/Mokoloki LCDA, pledged that their respective councils would redouble their efforts towards fast-tracking economic diversification, particularly through agriculture and other revenue generating ventures.

The House Committee also appraised the budget performance of Sagamu Local Government Council, presented by the Chairman, Felix Kafaru represented by the Secretary to the Local Government, Fakoya Adewale and that of Sagamu South LCDA defended by Barr.Gbenga Hassan, while the Chairman of Sagamu West LCDA, Mr Raji Awoyemi also reeled out the achievements of his LCDA.
