Dr Kayode Fayemi’s government in Ekiti State has assured that it will play its expected role to ensure complete eradication of polio virus in the state.

The Deputy Governor, Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi gave this assurance in his office in Ado-Ekiti while receiving  representatives of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency (PHCDA), who made a presentation on Polio eradication and routine immunization.

Chief Egbeyemi, who said although government was still battling with payment of arrears of workers salaries and correction of other absurdities inherited from the immediate past administration, promised not to leave any stone unturned in ensuring that Ekiti people, most especially the children live a healthy life.

Earlier in its presentation, the Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr. Joshua Ileke, who appreciated the Deputy Governor for the opportunity, updated the State Government on the roles of the Task Force on Polio eradication and routine immunization.

Dr. Ileke said when the Committee was fully operational, it would ensure adequate preparation, review and update of a 12-month State-plan for the intensification of Polio eradication and routine immunization activities which are required for eradication of wild polio virus.

While soliciting for timely and adequate resource allocation, Ileke promised that the Committee would ensure proper budget preparation for immunization activities and judicious use of all funds allocated for the exercise.

The Executive Secretary, who commended the State government on its achievement on the routine immunization coverage that rose from 53.2% to 66.6% in July, 2018, urged government to ensure regular funding of immunization activities across the State.

He also called for provision of a warehouse for vaccines coldchain equipment together with other medical materials.
