The Chairman, Ibadan South Local Council Development Area, Hon. Fagunwa Shakiru Kayode recently carried out a monthly free medical care to improve on the health status of the people of the council area.

Hon. Fagunwa, who flagged off the programme at Adelabu Shopping Complex, Orita Challenge, noted that the mission was in line with Governor Abiola Ajimobi agenda to improve the standard of living of the people of the state.

The chairman expressed that there is need for government to come to aid of the people in the council area following the high charges by private hospitals before they can attend to the people.

Hon. Fagunwa opined that he has, on different occasions personally assisted a lot people suffering from one health issue or the other. He added that in order to ensure that more people enjoy the benefit, hence the need to bring in to the council area, health workers to examine people free of charge on different ailments.

While speaking on the ailments the health workers will focus on, the council boss said that the free medical care will be on monthly basis with attention focuses on HIV test, eye and malaria test and care. He said that the council has made available about 75 eye glasses for the take-off for anybody with eye defect and drugs to dispense for treatment of malaria parasite free of charge.

The Maternal and Child Health Officer (MCH), Ibadan South LCDA, Bolanle Adetunji urged people of the council area to make use of the opportunity given to them to know their health status, saying that it is very important for every individual to at least go for medical check-up twice a year to know their status and improve on it.

She expressed that in the course of the programme, a person has been tested positive for HIV and has been handed over to the people in charge of the Agency for the Control of Aids in the local government for comprehensive test, treat and guidelines to live a better life.

One of the beneficiaries of the programme, Adeyemi Samuel who received one of the eye glasses, commended the council boss, Hon. Fagunwa Kayode for the initiative. He said that the programme will go a long way to reduce number of people suffering from different ailments, particularly eye problem which has now become a common issue among young and middle age people.

In attendance at the event were the Head of Local Government Administration, Funso Alao, Director of Administration and General Services, Olayinka Ajao, Local Government Matron, Esther Lawal and Fatiat Ayoade, Health Staff.
