Kwara Governor Approves Release Of Funds For LG/SUBEB Arrears, Signs MOU With Labour

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has announced plans to implement the N30,000 minimum wage when passed into law.

Similarly, Governor Ahmed has approved the release of funds for payment of one month salary for Local Government workers, pensioners and SUBEB workers.

Gov. Ahmed announced these on Monday at Labour House in Ilorin during the signing of a pact between him, the Governorship Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Barrister Razak Atunwa and the labour leaders in the state.

He said the signing of the agreement was a reflection of his firm commitment to ensuring that labour force continues to receive the needed attention in the state, pointing out that any arrears that would not be paid by him would be paid by his successor.

According to the governor, “under no guise should any worker be made to suffer due to non collection of salaries.”

He assured the labour force that the PDP governorship candidate would give them necessary attention if elected on the second of March governorship election in the state.

Gov. Ahmed who described Barrister Atunwa as knowledgeable and competent to manage the state, said the PDP Governorship candidate remains the only one with the experience, capacity and blueprint to hit the ground running.

Also speaking, the Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Razak Atunwa thanked Governor Ahmed and the labour force for ensuring industrial harmony in the state.

Hon. Atunwa promised to prioritise the welfare of workers and run an inclusive administration if elected.

In their separate remarks, the State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Yekini Agunbiade and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Kola Olumuh said the labour movement was happy that Hon. Atunwa deemed it fit to meet the unions and promised that the two parties remain committed to the pact.

They assured the PDP governorship candidate of the support of workers in the state to enable him emerge victorious in the poll.
