The Ekiti State Government has again, stressed its determination to revamp the education sector to match the contemporary demands of the nation.

While addressing pressmen at a One day lecture with the theme: “Technical and Vocational Education: Innovation and Change of Perception” organized by the Board of Technical Education at the Government Technical College, Ado-Ekiti, the Commissioner for Information, Tourism and Values Orientation, Aare Muyiwa Olumilua, said government is repositioning technical education, as a part of its efforts in developing a skilled youth population who would be self-reliant and technologically innovative.

The Commissioner, who reiterated Governor Kayode Fayemi’s resolve in restoring the values technical education was known for, urged parents to do away with the disdainful perception about technical education.

He urged that parents and guardians should take advantage of this restoration of technical education and equip their children and wards with the requisite skills that will place them in a vantage position among their peers.

According to Olumilua, Governor Fayemi should be lauded for these strides, considering the state of the art equipment and training tools now available in the school, which could compare favourably with those available anywhere in the world.

He said plans are in the pipeline for the replication of this in the other senatorial districts of the State and within a short time, Ekiti will gradually become the hub of technically skilled young people, whose expertise will in turn impact the economy of the State.
