The Union of Democratic Forces in Osun State has called on the Osun State House of Assembly members to donate one month of their salary to cushion the effect of the lockdown aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) in the state.
Wole Adedoyin, the Coordinator of the group made this known through a press statement issued in Ilesa on Monday.
According to the Statement, “As the government was the first to mobilise with bold measures against the pandemic, so our state’s political world must stand at the forefront of solidarity. We are all equal in the face of this health threat. But in the battle against it, everyone has to offer according to their own strengths. We therefore enjoined our elected Osun house of assembly lawmakers to support the government of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola with a month salary. These citizens elected them, they are in the assembly to represent them, without them they would be no where making law”
As at today, Monday, 6th of April, 2020, Osun ranks third among the states with confirmed cases of Covid-19 with 20 confirmed cases out of the 232 confirmed cases in Nigeria as released by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC).
UDF, however, lauded their efforts in giving food and relief materials to members of their constituencies but reiterated the need for them to donate their one month salary to assist the Governor in the fight against the pandemic virus in the state.
