Nigeria’s Super Eagles star, Kelechi Iheanacho, scored his first goal in pre-season for Leicester City, while Wilfred Ndidi returned to action in their 3-1 victory over Derby County in Derbyshire on Saturday.

The game was Iheanacho’s his third appearance in pre-season for the Foxes.

After a first-half stalemate, Iheanacho slammed a well-taken strike into the net for his maiden goal of pre-season before Derby’s Tom Barkhuizen levelled matters 10 minutes later.

But Patson Daka struck for the third time this pre-season and Callum Wright got himself on the score sheet to win it for City.

The Foxes that turned out at Derbyshire was captained by Youri Tielemans, while fellow midfielder Wilfred Ndidi was back available after missing the fixtures away to Notts County, OH Leuven and Hull City with an ankle sprain.

Ndidi looked solid, but Rodgers hauled him off on the hour mark for Mendy.

Derby County soon capitalized on the absence of the Nigerian and drew level in the 62nd minute.

Nonetheless, they were unable to see out the scoreline. Goals from Patson Daka and Callum Wright ensured that the East Midlanders ran out with a 3-1 victory.

The Foxes will conclude their pre-season schedule with a King Power Stadium encounter against Sevilla on Sunday. A week later, City kick-off their 2022/23 Premier League campaign against Brentford on the same soil.
