The burial ceremonies hosted in honour of iconic Pastor (Engineer) Sunday Matthew Adetunji has come and gone but the memories of the events that lasted for two weeks will continue to linger…
The notable and successful Engineer’s last journey started on Thursday, July 25, 2024 when a special Service of Songs was held at his palatial No 4, Atundaolu Street, Oke Ira, Ogba, Lagos. The event was attended by the creamiest in the society including Godwin Mekwuye of Vivid Imagination, Lagos and others.
A week later, the funeral train moved to Ado-Ekiti, the capital city of Ekiti State. A special family ceremony was held on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at the deceased’s Ajilosun, Ado-Ekiti home. This was followed on Friday by the main Christian Wake led by Christ Apostolic Church’s Pastor Olu Eyebiokin, Essien Regional Superintendent. The Ewi of Ado-Ekiti was represented by his wife at this important event.
On Saturday, a brief funeral service was held at the Ajilosun home of the Adetunjis before his remains were interred. A thanksgiving service was later held at CAC, Oke Igbala, Idolofin Zonal Headquarters, Idolofin Street, Ado-Ekiti. The Christian event was attended by the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Biodun Oyebanji and some members of his forward-looking cabinet as well as other notable Nigerians.
Family and friends including Senator Babafemi Ojudu, Ambassador Wale Ojo-Lanre, Barrister Wole Adeosun, Yombo Olasupo and several others were later hosted at the AB Foundation Civic Center, Adebayo, Ado-Ekiti.
