Nigeria’s Super Eagles caretaker coach, Augustine Eguavoen, has revealed that he was relieved after seeing his side beat Libya in Uyo on Friday.

The three-time AFCON champions defeated the Mediterranean Knights 1-0 in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matchday three encounter.

In the 86th minute, the Super Eagles found the back of the net through substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru with a sublime goal from Moses Simon’s pass to eventually clinch the maximum points.

“It was a huge relief for me and the boys, Eguavoen said after the game.

“When the goal came, it was a big relief.

“But I expected us to score more goals.

“Overall, we’re happy; we’re still top of the group.”

Eguavoen also blasted the North Africans for their time-wasting antics.

“They are a good side; they should play; when we scored, they came out,” he added.

“They defended in numbers in front of their goalkeeper.”

The two teams will clash again in Benina next Tuesday.
