The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) has jump-started construction works at the site of the first Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) station in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State.

Believed to be the very first in the South West outside Lagos, the station is located within the premises of NNPC Petrol Station behind NTA, Agodi Gate, Ibadan.

When PMParrot visited the site, construction workers were seen busy executing the project over the weekend.

Our source informed that the station is expected to be up and running before the middle of Year 2025.

For now, CNG refill is only available at the Ibadan end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway close to Challenge.

It will be recalled that earlier last year, the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government officially launched the distribution of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversion kits in Ibadan in a move aimed at alleviating the financial pressures on Nigerians resulting from the recent removal of petrol subsidies.

This initiative, known as the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (P-CNG) Initiative, focuses on supporting commercial transporters across the states of the federation.

CNG is widely believed to be better for the climate and environment than petrol.
