Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, has dismissed rumours regarding Eric Sekou Chelle’s future, insisting the Super Eagles offer the Franco-Malian coach his best chance at winning major silverware.
Speaking via NFF TV, Gusau emphasized that the depth of talent within the Nigerian squad makes it the ideal environment for Chelle to achieve his career ambitions.
“We still have a year left on Eric’s contract. Anyone interested in him will simply have to wait,” Gusau stated. “He enjoys working with Nigeria, and we want zero distractions. It isn’t just about money; it’s about having the right materials to succeed at the highest level.”
Addressing the tactical evolution of the team, Gusau highlighted the Super Eagles’ performance at AFCON 2025 as proof of Chelle’s impact.
Despite falling short of the trophy, Nigeria finished as the tournament’s highest-scoring side and remained unbeaten in regulation time.
“The transformation, especially our attacking intensity, is a testament to his leadership,” Gusau noted.“ If we holistically review all that happened at the AFCON, you can see that there has been tactical changes especially the intensity in the attack.
“Though we did not win the AFCON but we were the most high scoring team at the tournament as well as the only team that did not lose a match in regulation time but on penalties.”
He further assured fans that an improved contract would be discussed once the current two-year deal nears expiration, citing the strong synergy between the NFF and the National Sports Commission (NSC) as a key driver for future success.
