Nigeria’s Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, made history on Wednesday after scoring in Juventus FC’s 3-2 victory over Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League play-off second leg.
Despite the defeat, Galatasaray advanced to the round of 16 with a 7-5 aggregate win following their commanding first-leg advantage.
The match produced a series of goalscorers across a dramatic 120 minutes of action.
Juventus opened the scoring through Manuel Locatelli, who converted a first-half penalty in the 37th minute.
The Italian side extended their advantage in the second half when Federico Gatti finished from close range in the 70th minute.
Juventus then appeared to secure control when Weston McKennie headed home a free-kick delivery in the 82nd minute.
However, Galatasaray mounted a strong comeback in extra time. Osimhen reduced the deficit in the 106th minute with a composed finish after a brilliant assist from Barış Alper Yılmaz, bringing the score to 3-1.
Yılmaz then scored again in the 119th minute, demonstrating excellent attacking awareness to complete the scoring at 3-2.
The goal marked a historic milestone for Osimhen, as he became the foreign player with the most European competition goals in Galatasaray history, moving to 13 goals.
He surpassed club legends including Milan Baroš and Shabani Nonda, who both recorded 12 goals, while Mário Jardel (11) and Gheorghe Hagi (10) remain among the top contributors.
Despite the defeat, Galatasaray celebrated qualification, while Osimhen continued to strengthen his legacy as one of their most influential European performers.
The Turkish side will now prepare for the Champions League round of 16.
