The Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led government in Lagos State has said that it has delivered 10,623 housing units across the state in the last seven years as part of efforts to reduce the housing deficit and improve access to affordable homes.
Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, disclosed this during the Ministerial Press Briefing marking the third year of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s second term in office.
Akinderu-Fatai said the government was also projecting that over 14,000 housing units would be delivered before the end of 2026.
According to him, 4,414 housing units comprising one, two and three-bedroom apartments were provided through direct government funding, while Public-Private Partnership arrangements contributed 6,209 units.
He said the administration had intensified efforts to address Lagos’ housing deficit, estimated at over 3.3 million units, through increased housing supply, private sector participation and improved real estate investment opportunities.
“As we zoom in on Lagos State, the urgency of the housing challenge becomes more pronounced due to rapid urbanisation, population growth and increasing migration into the state,” he said.
The commissioner disclosed that the state government commissioned the Akinsanya Sunny Ajose Estate Phase 1 in October 2025, comprising 420 housing units.
He added that another 233 affordable housing units under the Abraham Adesanya Housing Estate Joint Venture Scheme were commissioned in November 2025.
According to him, the Sanwo-Olu administration has completed 23 housing estates across the five divisions of the state since 2019.
Akinderu-Fatai said five major housing schemes are currently under construction in Egan-Igando, Sangotedo, Epe, Ibeshe and Ipaja.
“At completion, the administration of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu would have delivered a total of 14,022 home units to Lagosians,” he said.
The commissioner also highlighted the contributions of the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation, the Lagos State Mortgage Board and the Lagos State Real Estate Regulatory Authority in housing delivery, mortgage access and regulation of real estate activities in the state.
