The Oyo State Chapter of the Christian Council of Nigeria has hailed the state’s Governor Seyi Makinde for his courage and visionary leadership.

In a statement from the office of the state chairman of the Christian body, Bishop (Dr.) David Ademola Moradeyo over the weekend, Makinde was applauded for his appeal to human rights groups and others within the United Nations to urgently investigate the recent abduction of pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

CCN stated that “this bold call reminds Nigerians of the precedent set in April 2013, when the then opposition leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, through the Action Congress of Nigeria, CAN, urged the International Criminal Court, ICC, to probe worsening insecurity after the massacre of over 185 people in Baga, Borno State.

“Governor Makinde’s stance is consistent with the United Nation’s global mandate to safeguard children and ensure accountability in cases of mass abduction.

“The Oyo State chapter of CCN fully supports Governor Makinde’s call. We believe that a transparent, impartial inquiry will restore public confidence, deliver justice and the sanctity of human life – values we uphold as a faith-based institution.

“We assure affected families of our continuous prayers and moral support. We also urge citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities through the state’s emergency line (615).

“Above all, we call for urgent action to avert what can amount to state-sanctioned violence or organised terrorism. Together, we can build a safer and more just society.”
