Medical practitioner and public health advocate Dr. Oluwatosin Ademola Ojo has called on governments at all levels to establish mini gyms in communities across Nigeria as part of efforts to reduce the growing burden of hypertension and other lifestyle-related diseases.

Dr Ojo made the appeal during a live health programme on Wednesday with Joshua Olusan on The Africa Portal Radio/TV, where he spoke extensively on the importance of preventing high blood pressure through healthy living.

According to him, hypertension has become one of the leading health challenges affecting millions of Nigerians, stressing that greater investment in preventive healthcare would help reduce the number of people living with the condition.

He urged Nigerians, especially those with parents or relatives suffering from hypertension, to pay close attention to their health by adopting healthier lifestyles. He advised the public to consume more fruits and vegetables, engage in regular physical exercise, limit alcohol consumption, and undergo routine medical check-ups.

Dr. Ojo emphasised that good health remains the foundation of a productive society, noting that “health is wealth.” He therefore encouraged individuals and families to make their well-being a top priority.

The medical expert further announced that he would be appearing live on The Africa Portal Radio/TV every Wednesday to educate and sensitise the public on various health issues affecting Nigerians, Africans, and the global community.

He explained that the initiative is aimed at promoting preventive healthcare and raising awareness on practical ways to live healthier lives.

Dr Ojo reiterated that preventing hypertension through healthy habits is more effective and less costly than treating its complications, calling on Nigerians to embrace healthy lifestyles for a longer and more productive life.

He also urged policymakers to complement public awareness campaigns by providing accessible recreational and fitness facilities in communities, describing mini gyms as a practical investment in improving public health and reducing the prevalence of hypertension across the country.
