Troops of the 65 Battalion of the Nigerian Army have dismantled a suspected illegal bunkering site in the Orile area of Lagos State, arresting six suspects during an intelligence-led operation.
Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, acting deputy director of army public relations, 81 Division Nigerian Army, said troops of the 65 Battalion, led by Lieutenant Colonel S. Adeojo, raided a suspected illegal bunkering site in the Orile General Area of Lagos State following credible intelligence on the activities of suspected oil thieves in the area.
The operation led to the arrest of six suspected illegal bunkerers, while troops recovered four trucks, a pumping machine, and assorted pipes and drums believed to have been used for the illegal movement and processing of petroleum products.
The suspects and all recovered exhibits have been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, for further investigation and prosecution in accordance with existing laws.
The successful operation reflects the growing emphasis on intelligence-driven enforcement against organised economic crimes that undermine national revenue, threaten energy security, and damage critical infrastructure across the country.
Major General Adebayo Abdulrahman Babalola, General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Nigerian Army, commended the troops for the successful operation and directed them to sustain pressure on criminal networks involved in illegal bunkering and other forms of economic sabotage within the division’s Area of Responsibility.
