Veteran journalist, respected media strategist, and the Abese of Ibadanland, Oloye Lekan Alabi, is dead.
According to family sources, Chief Alabi, who is also an author and the cultural ambassador of the National Museum and Monuments in Ile-Ife, Osun State, died on Saturday morning after a brief illness at the age of 76.
Alabi, who served as press secretary to several former governors of Oyo State, was born on Oct. 27, 1950, in Ibadan, Oyo State. He attended Seventh-day Adventist Primary School, Oke-Foko, before embarking on a career that earned him recognition as a journalist, public relations consultant, syndicated columnist, author, and motivational speaker.
Beyond his career in journalism, he was a respected cultural ambassador and traditional title holder, serving as the Abese of Ibadanland.
He played a pivotal role in shaping government communication during critical political transitions in Oyo State, earning a reputation as a respected voice in public affairs and institutional media practice.
Family sources confirmed that he would be buried on Sunday in accordance with Islamic rites.
Further details on the burial arrangements and tributes are expected to be announced by the family and the palace.
