A top chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Dr Wasiu Ayobami Lam-Adesina, has joined other well-meaning Nigerians in mourning the passing of veteran journalist, renowned media icon, and distinguished traditional title holder, Oloye Lekan Alabi, describing his death as devastating blow to Nigeria
Oloye Lekan Alabi, a former Chief Press Secretary to the late former Governor of the old Oyo State, Chief Bola Ige, and former Press Secretary to the former Military Governor of the state, retired Major General Oladayo Popoola, died on Saturday in Lagos at the age of 76 and was buried according to muslim rite on Sunday.
Dr. Ayobami, who is the eldest son of former Oyo State Governor Lamidi Adesina, described the late Oloye Lekan Alabi as a gentleman with a core Omoluwabi vaule whose remarkable contributions to journalism, public service, and Yoruba cultural heritage will remain indelible.
Until his demise, Oloye Alabi, who is the Cultural Ambassador of the National Museum, Ile-Ife, remained the Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, dedicating his life to the promotion of Yoruba history, culture, and tradition.
According to Dr. Adesina, the passing of Oloye Lekan Alabi has created a vacuum that will be difficult to fill, noting that Ibadanland, Oyo State, and Nigeria have lost one of their most illustrious sons, whose wisdom, humility, and dedication to excellence inspired generations.
Dr. Adesina, however, prayed that Almighty Allah grant the family, the people of Ibadanland, and all those touched by his remarkable life the fortitude to bear the loss and grant the deceased Aljanah Firdaus.
