Shooting Stars Sports Club, the Oluyole Warriors lost 2–0 to CS Sfaxien in Tunisia on Sunday, September 13, in the second leg of their first preliminary-round tie. CS Sfaxien therefore advanced 2–1 on aggregate, overturning 3SC’s 1–0 first-leg advantage.
The Tunisian goals came from Iyed Belwafi in the 27th minute and Youssef Habchia in the 68th minute.
The elimination brings an end to 3SC’s much-anticipated return to continental football after 27 years away from African competition. The club’s return had begun impressively with a 1–0 victory over CS Sfaxien in Abeokuta on September 5, with Lucky Emmanuel scoring the decisive goal.
