Nigeria’s Super Eagles have slipped four places to 30th in the latest FIFA men’s world ranking released on Wednesday, following a disappointing international window.

It is Nigeria’s biggest drop in position since November 2024, when the Super Eagles slid down by eight places.

The three-time African champions had occupied the 26th position in the previous ranking but now dropped to sixth place among African nations.

The latest ranking sees Algeria and Côte d’Ivoire move above Nigeria on the continental table, with the Super Eagles losing ground after a mixed run of results in their recent fixtures.

Eric Chelle’s side opened the international window with a 2-1 victory over Madagascar in a 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

However, the Super Eagles were unable to build on that result, suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau before ending the window with a 3-3 draw against Russia in an international friendly in Nizhny Novgorod on Tuesday.

Nigeria had entered the latest ranking as Africa’s fourth-highest team, behind Morocco, Senegal, and Egypt.

Morocco remains the continent’s top-ranked side and is seventh in the world, followed by Senegal, Egypt, Algeria, Côte d’Ivoire, and Nigeria.

The rest of Africa’s top 10 comprise DR Congo, Cameroon, Mali, and Tunisia.

At the global level, Spain retains the top spot, with Argentina, France, England, and Portugal completing the top five.

Brazil, Morocco, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Mexico occupy the remaining places in the world’s top 10.
