The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has pledged to intensify voter education and civic sensitisation nationwide ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

NOA Director-General Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu said the Agency would work with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, the media and other stakeholders to promote informed and responsible participation.

He was speaking at an event organised by INEC to update Nigerians on its preparedness to conduct the 2027 elections 100 days before the event.

With offices in all 774 local government areas of Nigeria, the NOA will use community leaders, markets, motor parks, radio, television, and social media to reach citizens.

Issa-Onilu described voting as a civic duty and urged Nigerians to participate confidently in the electoral process.

Also speaking at the event, the NYSC leadership assured stakeholders that corps members deployed for election duties had been sensitised about electoral rules. Its representative, Mrs Abdulwahab Olayinka, warned that violations would attract sanctions under Nigerian law and NYSC bylaws.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash O. Amupitan, announced the commencement of the 100-day countdown to the 2027 elections, with the voter register now standing at 103,130,000. He said the register would be displayed nationwide from October 9 to 15, 2026, while PVC distribution would begin on October 9.

INEC also announced plans to deploy new BVAS devices, upgrade result transmission systems, use artificial intelligence for anomaly detection, and conduct a nationwide mock election. The Commission will mobilise more than 100,000 vehicles and 4,000 boats while strengthening measures against vote buying, disinformation, and electoral violence.

EU Ambassador to Nigeria, Gautier Mignot, reaffirmed the EU’s support for a peaceful and credible election and announced plans to deploy an expert mission to observe the process.

Stakeholders called for collective efforts to ensure a successful election.

The NOA assured Nigerians that it would use its nationwide structures and media partnerships to promote peaceful and responsible participation.
