Not less than five buses belonging to Betterlife Bakery, located around Molete in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, were damaged during a campaign rally organised by Accord Party gubernatorial candidate Alhaji Hamzat Oriyomi.
Supporters of the Accord party were reportedly responsible for the destruction during a procession on Wednesday.
The incident occurred at about 1 p.m. around Molete under Bridge and extended to the Car Wash area and Bode Market, between Ibadan South-West and Ibadan South Local Government Areas of Oyo State. The incident caused panic as traders and residents scampered for safety.
The vehicles reportedly vandalised were parked in front of the bakery.
Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of Betterlife Bakery, Hon. Oluwafemi Oluwafowokanmi, condemned the act of vandalism, describing it as unfortunate and deeply saddening in this modern era.
The two-term member of the Oyo State House of Assembly and Chairman of the House Committee on Tertiary Institutions called on the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The chieftain of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) emphasised that the party remains firmly committed to a peaceful campaign ahead of the general elections.
Hon. Oluwafowokanmi also appealed to politicians not to use electioneering as an opportunity to undermine the peace and tranquillity enjoyed by the people of Oyo State over the past seven years under the administration of Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde.
