About 1000 children were in attendance for Kiddifest, a socio-cultural event organized by Ekiti State Council for Arts and Culture as part of activities marking 2019 edition of Ekiti State Festival of Arts and Culture (EKIFEST).

The event featured talent hunt, traditional dance competition, and lecture on preservation and promotion of Yoruba culture and tradition.

In his opening remark, Ambassador Wale Ojo-Lanre, Director-General, Ekiti State Council for Arts and Culture, said the event is one of the ways through which the council is promoting and sensitizing the younger ones on the role of culture in the society.

Ojo-Lanre said, “we need to make the younger ones understand the import of our culture so that they won’t lose or place foreign culture above theirs.”

The DG who spoke in Ekiti dialect said Governor Fayemi and his wife are passionate about the promotion of culture because they see it as a tool for propagating moral virtues in the younger ones.

He, however, urged parents, teachers and guardians to continue to teach the younger ones and encourage them to see the need to speak their language and embrace their culture.

EKIFEST Continues on Wednesday with the official opening which will be carried out by the state’s Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi at the state pavilion, new Iyin Road, Ado Ekiti.
