The whole world was shocked on Friday when operatives of the Department of State Security in Nigeria invaded the Federal High Court, Abuja as they made moves to re-arrest the Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore.

Though this rather disturbing development has been condemned by prominent stakeholders in Nigeria including Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, it has further accentuated the fears of the people of the country on the survival of democracy.

Without minding being recorded on video, the tactless DSS operatives went about the nefarious assigned like ill-trained officers.

From the video clips making the rounds online, it is obvious that somebody somewhere at the top of decision making at the DSS headquarters did not do his or her homework.

It can be argued front and back that Sowore, whose ‘sin’ is calling for a revolution in the country is guilty or innocent.

Interesting enough, Nigerians, who have been expressing their views on the development have unanimously condemned the DSS and those that sent them on the ignoble assignment.

Nigerians are further disappointed in the Muhammadu Buhari-led government for leaving its other duties and pursuing ‘a harmless and hardworking’ Sowore.

Buhari’s government needs to set its priorities right. Without fear of being contradicted, we can submit here that there is intractable and intensive HUNGER in the country. Added to this is insecurity.

Nigerians will be more than elated to see Buhari’s handlers direct his attention to the above mentioned major challenges facing the people. The Judiciary should be allowed to do its job by prosecuting all the Sowores of this world as long as there are vivid pieces of evidences to make them face the wrath of the laws of the country.

Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
