COVID-19: 9000 Homes In Ogun Receive Relief Packages From IHS

The Ogun State Government has acknowledged the receipt of over 9000 bags of grains and other items from IHS Towers, one of the largest provider of mobile telecoms infrastructure in Africa, Europe and the Middle East which to be distributed among the vulnerable persons, as part of measures to cushion the effect of lockdown order induced by the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the world.

Receiving the food palliatives, in collaboration with Nigeria Red Cross Society, Ogun State Branch in Abeokuta, Secretary to Ogun State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi represented by the State Commissioner for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Barr. Femi Ogunbanwo, maintained that the present administration in the state was indeed appreciative of the life-changing gesture to 9000 vulnerable homes in the state as well as several numerable support and contributions from Corporate bodies, Religious Organizations and public spirited individuals towards making life better and more bearable for the people of the state at these trying period in global health history.

“On behalf of the Governor, and the good people of the state, I will like to thank HIS for providing the food palliatives for our people, and the Nigeria Red Cross in assisting to distribute the food items to the vulnerable and poor amongst us in the society, particularly at this period of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I would like to use these medium to extend our sincere appreciation to IHS Towers, and other corporate organization, group of individuals, religious bodies and public spirited individuals of their good intention in supporting the state at these challenging period, indeed we really appreciate you all,” Talabi said

Also speaking, Special Assistant to the Governor  on Social Investment, Mr. Dimeji Belo, noted that the gesture by IHS was a clear demonstration of a high level of commitment to the plight of the people in reaching out to the vulnerable persons and less privileged in six different local council areas of the state, adding that the gesture was targeted to preach love, oneness and show utmost  concern to the plight of less privileged ones during the restriction order on COVID-19 pandemic affecting nations in the world.

Explaining mode of distribution, Executive Secretary of Nigeria Red Cross Society, Ogun State branch, Mr. Aboyade Oluwole who also commended IHS for the kind gesture at alleviating the peoples travails during the lockdown period in the state, and particularly for the confidence reposed in the Nigeria Red Cross to help in the distribution of the palliatives to the people in six selected localities each in Abeokuta North, Ado/Odo-Ota, Ijebu-Ode, Yewa South, Obafemi-Owode and Sagamu local government areas of the state.

Food palliatives presented to benefiting homes include bags of Rice, Beans, Garri, Flavourings, Indomies and Spaggetti and Satchets.
