Nigeria’s Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun has revealed that although former Nigeria international, Kanu Nwankwo was a player with a lot of class but his national teammate, Austin Okocha was a better footballer.
The Wigan Athletic defender, who is currently on loan to Brighton, believe that Kanu, who have more success at club level winning the prestigious UEFA Champions League in 1994/95 season, UEFA Super Cup both with Ajax Amsterdam and two African Footballer of the Year awards can not be compare with Okocha who had won the Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles in 1994.
“I always admired Kanu, you know he is very tall, very lanky and that’s technical, it is not easy.
“Even though I picked Jay-Jay, Kanu definitely deserves a lot of respect because he has been through a lot, also physically.
“For me one of the greatest in the history of Nigerian football,” Balogun said.
Both Okocha and Kanu were member of the Super Eagles team that finished second at the 2000 Africa Cup of Nations and won bronze medals at three consecutive AFCONs in 2002, 2004 and 2006.
