Alhaji Danjuma Gauras, Chairman, Sabo Ibadan Progressive and Developmental Association and the Garukuwa of Ibadan land, has called for the support of the conventional security outfit in Oyo State, to help the community in fighting rape and sexual abuse happening within the Hausa community.

Alhaji Danjama, while speaking during a town hall meeting and community interactive section organized by Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC) in Ibadan said he is worried and concerned about the increased numbers of unknown men who usually storm the community to rape their innocent girls.

He lamented that this evil act has not but turned some of the victims into carriers of different diseases, while some are left with unwanted pregnancy.

The Sokoto State-born businessman also called on well-meaning Nigerians to help in sensitising the largest Hausa community area of Ibadan in order to turn up for western education, as that is the only solution to reduce the numbers of small children roaming about the streets.

Alhaji Danjuma also charged the Oyo State Government under the watch of Engr Seyi Makinde to support the children of the environment by bringing schools inside Sabo Ibadan area. Saying that this will help them and gives the parents no choice than to enroll their wards in school as many of these parents do not enroll their children because of financial implications.

He therefore called on parents to ensure they try their best in investing on their children education in order to make them a better person in future.

He also spoke about the general notion of having larger number of Hausa children begging as an untrue and misinterpretation of northern culture. He maintained that most of the vulnerable children begging across the city are not Hausas, but people don’t really know because of the level of the accommodation they gave them from the inception.

He said, “many of the people begging within the city of Ibadan  are from neighboring countries like Niger Republic, Mali and some other West Africa  countries closer to Nigeria.

“If you have noticed, majority of them cannot even speak Hausa language but other tribes believe they are Hausas because of the similarity in their culture,” he stated.

He therefore pleaded to the Oyo State government to carry out a proper research on this and take a necessary action because  Hausas are very hardworking people. he also advised the government to involve the leadership of the Sabo Ibadan International community under the watch of Seriki Hausa in council in order to clear the doubt and general notion as the beggars are already constituting nuisance in the environment.

Also speaking about the increase in rate of taking hard drugs that has become social vises across the country, Alhaji Danjuma said his organization is working tirelessly to sensitize their youths not to involve in taking drugs as they’ve made them to understand the effects of hard drugs in their live.

He also boasted that his group has ensured that there is no single hard drugs’ dealer living or staying within the Hausa community anymore.

The Hausa leader also pleaded for the support of NGOs especially on sanitization of the environment. He also pleaded for support in keeping the community clean.
