The flag-off of the 2020 gubernatorial election campaign of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo state has come and gone but it can be said that the event was one used to issue warnings to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to live up to expectations.
The candidate of the party, Mr Jegede Eyitayo (SAN) also used the opportunity to announce that if elected as the governor of the state in the forthcoming election, there would be a new face of governance in the state, as there would be reduction in school fees, and there would be massive job for the youth in the state.
According to PMParrot’s reporter who was live at the venue of the campaign flag-off in Akure reported that Jegede, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria stated this while addressing the people of the state who came to support the PDP at the event of the October 10 guber poll.
The former Attorney General of the state assured the people that the present hardship brought by the APC-led government in the federal and state would be a thing of the past. He said it is unacceptable that students in tertiary institutions are paying huge fees, thereby forcing them to drop out of schools.
He decried the poor health services being rendered across the state, while reassuring the people of the state that the good old days of free and affordable health services would be restored.
Also speaking, the National Chairman of the PDP, Uche Secondus thanked the people for their trust in his party, urging them to reject the APC which has brought untold hardship on Nigerians.
He advised President Buhari and the APC leadership to stay clear of Ondo state as the people will resist their rigging strategies.
The Chairman of Jegede’s campaign committee and the governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde who disclosed that his mother is from Ondo state, urged the people of the state not to be intimidated by APC’s federal might, adding that the APC can be defeated.
His words “If we defeated them in Oyo, I do not see why we won’t defeat them here,” he said.
The governor of Sokoto state, Aminu Bello Tambuwal said the people can now see the difference between the PDP and APC in the last five years of Buhari’s government.
“You can see how they increased fuel price and electricity tariff within a week without even looking at the economic effect on the masses at a time like this,” he said.
Former Chairman of PDP in the state, Clement Faboyede in his own submission said the turn out of the people at the rally showed that the APC government led by Akeredolu has been rejected in the state. He enjoined them to vote for Eyitayo Jegede and PDP on October 10.
Notable PDP chieftains at the rally included former Governor of Osun, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Dr Segun Oni, Hon. Bode Ayorinde, Barr. Sola Ebiseni, Chief Godday Erewa and Hon. John Ola Mafo.
Others included Senator Nicholas Tofowomo, Senator Abiodun Olujimi, Senator Patrick Akinyelure among others.
The high point of the event was the presentation of the party’s flag to Eyitayo Jegede by Prince Uche Secondus.
Jegede was accompanied to the rally by his wife, Mrs Eno Jegede and his running mate, Ikengboju Dele Gboluga.
