The Odua Peoples Congress (OPC), Oyo State chapter has raided the Old Oyo Forest Reserve Park in Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State and apprehended five suspected terrorists and kidnappers.
The OPC in its efforts to get rid of terrorists and kidnappers and other criminal elements in Oyo State also recovered guns and other dangerous arms and ammunitions from the suspects who were nabbed on Sunday.
Speaking with the newsmen in Kishi, the State Coordinator of the Odua People’s Congress (OPC), Rotimi Olumo, disclosed that the move was as a result of the mandate given by the National Coordinator of the group and Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba, Chief Gani Adams to get rid of terrorists and kidnappers in Oyo State particularly in Oke-Ogun.
He said that the instruction prompted him to move the state apparatus of the congress to Oke-Ogun part of the state to dislodge terrorists and kidnappers who have made the Old Oyo Forest Park their hide out.
While revealing that tips from different quarters assisted them to carry out the raiding successfully, Olumo stated that five suspected terrorists and kidnappers were arrested in the process with guns and other dangerous ammunitions in their possession.
While commending all the traditional rulers, local government chairmen and people of Oke-Ogun for providing them necessary and useful information that led to the arrest of the suspects, Oluomo said that OPC will not allow terrorists, kidnappers and any other criminal elements to operate in the state.
“As the state Coordinator of OPC, I must thank our leader and Aare Onakankanfo of Yoruba land, Chief Gani Adams for giving us the adequate information about the operations of kidnappers and terrorists in Oke-Ogun area part of Oyo State. He has tried a lot for Yoruba land.”
Rotimi Olumo called on the state government to give OPC the necessary support and backing to carry out its operation, noting that OPC as group has achieved a lot in making sure that peace reigns in Oyo state.
He appealed that the suspects who have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force should be taken to the court of law for appropriate judgement.
Comrade Rotimi Olumo, while thanking members of the group in Igbeti and Igboho for their support and logistics for the successful operation, said that OPC needs the support of all and sundry to succeed because the security of Oyo state is important.
