It was celebration galore at Iloro Ekiti, Ekiti State as the Oluloro of Iloro Ekiti, His Royal Majesty, Oba James Oluwafemi Olugbesoye, Arojojoye II, celebrated his first-year anniversary on the throne of his forefathers.
He ascended the throne on 30th October, 2019 after the death of the former occupier.
The event attracted many royal fathers and eminent personalities including prominent sons and daughters of the land. The monarch, at the event conferred honorary titles on two eminent personalities for the various roles and contributions they had made in the community.
Oba Olugbesoye was born into the famous Arojojoye Ruling House of the Aafin Quarters in Iloro Ekiti by Prince Michael Adunola and late Olori Abigail Ajisafe Olugbesoye on 30th July, 1963. Before his ascension, the monarch was a very successful business man who carved a niche for himself in various business enterprises.
Those honored included Chief Olaoye Dele Joshua who was conferred with the chieftaincy title of Baba Oba of Iloro Ekiti Kingdom. Before his conferment as the Baba Oba of Iloro Ekiti Kingdom; he had earned for himself other chieftaincy titles such as the Aare Akogun of Agege Kingdom in Lagos State, the Asiwaju of Itori Oke in Egbaland among others.
Similarly, Alhaji Taofeeq Babatunde Oshikoya was conferred as the Mayegun of Iloro Ekiti Kingdom. He is a reputable business man with business empires across the nation and beyond. The new Mayegun of Iloro Ekiti Kingdom’s giant strides in business has endeared him to the community for his philanthropic work across the state.
As a result of his positive track records in the area of agriculture in particular, he has secured hectares of land for agricultural businesses in some parts of Iloro Ekiti’s farmland. Records also show that he is undertaking a special project for the people of Iloro Ekiti Kingdom which would be unveiled at its completion to the people of Iloro Ekiti Community.
In an interview with the monarch by PMParrot, the Kabiyesi expressed great joy and thanked God for his one year Coronation anniversary on the throne.
In the word of the Kabiyesi, he said “today is a very special day in my life. Infact, I never knew that God loves me this much. I didn’t expect that I can go far in life. God has been so wonderful. He has been so marvelous to me; in fact, I do not know what else I can do than just to be thanking God and to be grateful.
“He surrounded me with good people and God-fearing people. No wonder He said in His word that He has gathered people together for me. God told me that He has gathered people that will help me to ascend the throne of my forefathers and He did exactly that. I can see what God is doing already.
“I am highly fulfilled as I am celebrating my one-year coronation anniversary despite the total lockdown in the entire country as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic all over the world”.
Speaking further, the Oluloro said: “I am not a politician but an Oba. I have everybody as my constituency”, he stated.
On his future plan, the monarch said “in the last one year, the Kingdom has experienced a lot of tremendous changes in terms of development, socio cultural development, like road constructions, state government intervention projects in the town.
“Like now, there is an ongoing project put in place by FERMA. There had been no federal road in Iloro Ekiti before his coming but now there are lots of government’s activities in the town. We have about three different roads being constructed in the town and they are almost concluded. Also, there is a school project ongoing in the town. It’s newly approved and it is six blocks of classrooms for the Community”.
“Also, we have a branch of the Narsal Community Bank in Iloro Ekiti at the moment out of the three that are situated in the state. We have one in Iloro Ekiti while the other ones are in Ikole and Ado Ekiti LGA areas of the state at the moment.
The Oluloro, while urging the people of Iloro Ekiti Kingdom to allow peace reign in the community said “I want progress for my people. I want the cooperation from my people. I want them to please cooperate with me in order to move the town forward. I appreciate them in the last one year, they have been very cooperative and committed. In fact, they have performed so excellently well. They have been performing very well and I urge them to continue to do better”.
