As part of efforts to improve the knowledge and skills in writing award winning grants, the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), Tai Solarin University of Education (OWSD-TASUED) Chapter has organized a day seminar for its members.
The seminar, which was the maiden edition, was held at 2012 Tetfund Building, TAI Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Main Campus, Ogun State on Tuesday.
One of the anchor of the programme, Mrs. Ikimot Azeez, disclosed that the organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) is an international organization founded to unite eminent women scientists from the developing and developed worlds with objective of strengthening their role in the development process and promoting their representation in scientific and technological leadership.
She further said that OWSD provides research training, career development and networking opportunities for women scientists throughout the developing world at different stages in their careers.
Quoting the OWSD President, Tai Solarin University of Education chapter, Professor Oluwakemi Oyebanjo, Mrs. Azeez stated that the objective of the maiden edition of the seminar in the institution is to motivate and enhance opportunities to develop positive attitude towards participation of women in the development and utilization of new technologies.
According to Professor Oyebanjo, “On behalf of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) TASUED chapter which is an arm of the organization in Nigeria under the umbrella of OWSD worldwide, I welcome you all to the maiden edition of our Seminar titled “How to write Award Winning Grants” today, Tuesday 14th September, 2021.
“My Vice Chancellor Sir, the core objective of OWSD is to increase the participation of women in developing countries in scientific and technological research, teaching, and leadership; and to promote participation of women in the development of their country as contained in the Statutes and Rules of Procedure of the Organization approved at the founding meeting of the Organization’s General Assembly on 29 June 2010, at Beijing, China.
“In pursuing its objectives, the Organization shall develop strategies for the participation and leadership of women in national and international science and innovation systems and also to improve access to educational, training and professional development opportunities for women in developing countries. This led to the maiden edition of our Seminar titled “How to write Award Winning Grants” today, Tuesday 14th September, 2021.
“Here at TASUED chapter, the Organization is set to motivate and enhance opportunities to develop a positive attitude to participation of women in the development and utilization of new technologies.
“Erudite scholars have been invited to share their wealth of knowledge on how to write Award Winning Grants to promote collaboration and communication among women scientists and technologists in developing countries and with the international scientific community as a whole.
“As we gather today in this auditorium from various colleges in the Premier and Preferred University of Education in Nigeria, it is our collective responsibility to increase awareness about the participation of women scientists and technologists in the development of their country, ” Prof. Oyebanjo said.
There were paper presentations on the theme “How to Write Award Winning Grant” by the Director, Research and External Relations, TASUED, Prof. Samuel Oladipo, Prof. Bolanle Otegbayo, BOWEN University, Iwo, Dr. Akorede Jimoh, Associate Professor of Educational Technology and Dr. Akerele Abisola.
