The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye has described Saturday’s local government election as a democratic choice where every citizens or political parties can make decisions for themselves.
He spoke in an interview with journalists against the background of non-participation of the main opposition parties in the Council poll while monitoring the election in Ikere Local Government Area.
Honourable Afuye commended what he described as free and fair conduct of the election and the behaviour of voters, adding that at the end, he expected his party to come out victorious.
”I expect a good result for my party, the All Progressives Congress, (APC)
Election is a democratic choice you can decide to vote and decide not to vote. You may decide to participate in an election and you may as well decide not to”.
A visit to some polling units in Ado-Ekiti, the State Capital, showed low turnout of voters but the atmosphere was peaceful.
It was also observed that restriction of movements was not complied with as vehicular and human traffic flowed freely in Ado-Ekiti and Ikere-Ekiti.
