A socio-political group, Women for Southwest Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA), has said it will mobilise five million women voters for Asiwaju Bola Tinubu once he gets the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket.
At a briefing in Lagos, SWAGA urged women be active participants in politics.
The Chairman, Mrs. Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe, said the group is out to build a strong platform for Tinubu.
She said: “We want the presidency to come to the Southwest but we can’t do it alone. It is a national thing. We have to involve other geopolitical zones to mobilise their delegates for Tinubu. He is an advocate of good representation of women in governance. In his cabinet in 1999, there was about 30 per cent women representation. It was during his time we had women as Director-Generals, Permanent Secretaries and so on. We need delegates for him to achieve this feat at the national level.”
The National Public Relations Officer, Folashade Olabanji-Oba, said Tinubu remains the best choice to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari. “We have trust in him to change the narrative of women in governance. He has done it in Lagos and he would do better at the federal. Everybody knows Lagos leads other states. We didn’t just start now. For about two years, we have been telling him that Nigeria needs him. We want someone with the wealth of experience to consolidate achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari.”
