A very prominent Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Wole Olanipekun, has stressed the need for Nigeria to return to true federalism to end the challenges bedeviling it.

Olanipekun insisted that federalism remained the only potent antidot to the nagging insurgency, killings, kidnapping and other manifestations of insecurity.

He spoke in his Ikere-Ekiti country home at the weekend, when he presented over N30 million gift to students, youths, aged and widows, to mark the 2022 edition of the Wole Olanipekun Scholarship and Empowerment Scheme.

The legal icon said Nigerians must use the opportunity of the ongoing Constitution Amendment to get Nigeria federalised and democratised in consonance with the global dictates of the system.

He blamed the stalemate in the passage of the bill in some states on the governors’ insistence that the state police must be approved for sub-national stratum to stem the tide of insurgency, killings and kidnapping.

The legal icon also expressed his displeasure that only Nigeria was resisting true federalism among nations of the world practising democracy, describing it as ‘an aberration’.
