The Confederation of African Football has postponed the group stage draws for the Champions League and the Confederation Cup.
Group stage draws for both interclub competitions was initially slated for Wednesday (today), but the body announced via its website on Tuesday that the event had been postponed.
“The CAF interclub Group Stages draw for TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup has been postponed. The draw was initially scheduled for Wednesday, 16 November 2022. A new date and time will be announced in due course. CAF apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this change,” CAF wrote on its website.
With the development, it means Nigeria Professional Football League side; Rivers United will wait a little while for the anticipated draw of the Confederation Cup.
Since scaling the hurdle of Al Nasr Benghazi in Libya, the club has been looking forward to the money-spinning stage of the competition.
“#TotalEnergiesCAFCC preliminary rounds. Can’t wait to see the teams that join us in our group! Group stage draws loading,” the club tweeted on November 11.
Rivers United are in the running for the second-tier competition with 15 other clubs.
The qualified teams for the Confederation Cup are: Al Akhdar (Libya), ASFAR Club (Morocco), AS Real Bamako (Mali), ASEC Mimosas (Ivory Coast), ASKO de Cara (Togo), Montena Pembe (DRC), Diables Noirs (Congo), Saint Eloi Lupopo (Dr Congo), Future FC (Egypt), Marumo Gallants FC (South Africa), Pyramids FC (Egypt), TP Mazembe (DRC), US Monastir (Tunisia), USM Alger (Algeria), Young Africans (Tanzania).
The teams in the CAF Champions league are: Al Ahly (Egypt), Al Hilal (Sudan), Al Merrikh SC (Sudan), Atletico Petroleos (Angola), Coton Sport (Cameroon), CR Belouizdad (Algeria) Esperance Tunis (Tunisia), Horoya (Guinea), JS Kabylie (Algeria), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Raja CA (Morocco), Simba SC (Tanzania), Vipers SC (Uganda), Wydad AC (Morocco), Zamalek (Egypt), AS Vita Club (RD Congo).
