It was a gathering of the creamiest as Old boys and girls of Ibadan Grammar School (IGSOSA), Molete gathered to celebrate the 110th Founder’s Day Anniversary of the citadel of knowledge’s existence.
The celebration, which climaxed with Dinner and Gala Night at World Lilies Hotel, Oluyole also witnessed a novelty match at the newly renovated school pitch between the 1982 Set and the Millennium (2000) Set and commissioning of the newly renovated and equipped school Lawn Tennis Court.
The old students, who are accomplished experts in their various fields of practice, were seen beaming with smiles in a beautifully decorated hall with melodious tunes saturating the arena as they recount their old days at the one-hundred-and-ten-year-old school.
In an address, the National President of Ibadan Grammar School Old Students’ Association, Mr. Oladimeji Mako, explained that old boys and girls from the school have reflected the virtues imparted in them by their Alma mater in their various fields of endeavours.
“This evening I look around this room and am glad to see and relate with a group of brilliant minds, well-accomplished people who continue to make a difference in all areas of human activities.
“Most of you have helped to give hope and optimism that the future is bright and that our school community will go on to achieve incredible things in an atmosphere conducive to Learning and character molding.”
Mr. Mako enjoined old students of IGS to support the school as builders of a shared Vision to give hope to every registered student as well as improve the infrastructure.
Chairman on the occasion, Mr. George Thorpe, who explained that being a non-indigene in IGS, he enjoyed equal access to every opportunity offered by the Alma-mater, advocated relegation of ethnic bias or bigotry in the scheme of things.
“I did not recall ever being subjected to ethnic bias or bigotry for being a non-indigene at Ibadan grammar school and I already gave instances of receiving many privileges.” Mr. Thorpe added.
Also speaking on rationale behind the novelty match between his set, 2000 and 1982 Set, the President of the Millennium Set, Engr. Oluwa Daniel, said that the move is to establish mutual cooperation.
Oluwa further disclosed that the 2000 Set will in collaboration with the national body of the association continue to contribute its quota towards the development of our alma mater.
The match between the two sets ended in a penalty-shootouts, it was 2 goals to one in favour of the 2000 Set.
The high point of the event was the presentation of awards in different categories to old students, who had distinguished themselves in the society, among whom were the telecommunication giant, Dr. Mike Adenuga, retired Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Badejoko Adeniji, The Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo and Baale Ekotedo, Elder Taye Ayorinde.
