The Lagos State Police Command’s Crack Squad, based in Gbagada, has dismantled a human trafficking syndicate operating under the pretense of offering employment opportunities in West African countries. Acting on intelligence, the police rescued 10 teenage girls and arrested two suspects.

The suspects, Chike Aniegbunam, 52, and Donald Oviokote, 55, were apprehended in the Mazamaza area of Lagos State while attempting to ferry them across the border.

The Crack Squad intercepted the suspects as they were attempting to transport the girls across West Africa. The suspects said they had been in the business for two years, bribing Immigration officers with 1,000 Ghana cedis to avoid detection.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Benjamin Hundeyin, announced this during the parade of criminals at the police headquarter in Lagos.

Hundeyin further stated  that the victims, aged between 16 and 23, hail from various regions, including the Southsouth, Southwest, and Southeast of Nigeria. Among the rescued was a foreign national from Benin Republic.
