Speaking with newsmen earlier, the Deputy Governor, Mrs.Yetunde Onanuga, thanked the people for their cooperation, saying there was no resistance of any kind against the demolition which is a clear demonstration of the fact that the people appreciates the development the government is bringing to the area.

On his part, the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Arch. Olamilekan Adegbite said the state government is paying a total sum of N8billion as compensation for the houses affected by the demolition exercise adding that about N2bn out of this sum, has already been disbursed.

Arc. Adegbite added that apart from payment of compensations, the state government is also providing temporary relocation support for the aged and physically challenged affected by the demolition exercise.

As early as 6am on Sunday, some of the residents of the affected structures were seen removing the roof of their buildings and moving out their belongings in a show of cooperation and understanding of the government effort.

Some of the residents who spoke with the media include Mr. Sina Akinpelu and Mrs. Monsurat Akinbile. They both expressed satisfaction with the developmental effort and urged the government to fast track the compensation plan as well as ensure timely completion of the road.

Earlier, Governor Amosun embarked on a sensitisation walk around Ebugada-Adatan; Ake-Ilugun-Mokola and Ajitadun-Itoku areas of Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.

The governor undertook the walk as a means of preparing residents of these areas of the impending demolition exercise in the area.

In the course of the sensitisation walk, the governor went from house to house and made arrangements for the immediate relocation of the aged and physically challenged.

The demolition exercise, which is meant to make way for the construction and expansion of the affected roads, commenced on Sunday morning.

It will be recalled that the affected buildings have been marked for demolition since 2012 while residents have been sensitised over the years.

In addition to that, affected house owners have also been encouraged to come forward for payment of compensation starting from Monday, April 10.
